Children's Ministry

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord - Psalm 127:3

Children’s Ministry

Kids are great!

People everywhere recognize children are the future.

As parents and adults it’s our responsibility to pass the Truth of scripture and knowledge of God to them. Some would say it’s the most important role we can fill on this earth.

“Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it.” – Proverbs 22:6

The Children’s Ministry at MBC firmly recognizes this. We cannot grow a “seed of truth” planted in a child’s mind and heart. That is God’s job. We can, however, plant and water it. We view our role is to come alongside and serve fathers and mothers as they train up and steward the gift from God each child is to their family and to the world.

And we will. Faithfully.

When Christ commanded us to “Go and make disciples”, he didn’t limit that to post-high school adults. In fact, He said,

“Truly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” – Matthew 18:3-4

The opportunity to become Christ’s disciple starts with the day of our spiritual birth and we will assist each household as the young believers in their household start their journey of faith to become like Christ.

Awana Club

AWANA Club at MBC is a thriving weekly discipleship and evangelism program geared so kids have a whole lot of fun. AWANA rewards the hard work your kids do by positively reinforcing them with awards and recognition. It’s available to kids from pre-school through sixth grade.

Over 70 kids currently attend AWANA each week. Combined with adult leaders there are well over 100 people gathered together to make the Awana experience as awesome as possible.

On a normal night at AWANA your kid will take part of three different activities: Game Time, Handbook Time and Council Time. You can read more about these activities below.

Times and Events

AWANA begins at 6:15pm and ends at 8:00pm on Wednesday evenings.

A Note from the Commander

It is my commitment to serve our living and personal God by building a program that rests on the foundation of the Midland Bible Children’s program, “Helping parents grow Godly kids,” and AWANA’s purpose, “Reaching boys and girls with the gospel of Christ that they might know, love and serve Him.”

I will seek every opportunity to express the Joy I experience due to a life trusting in Christ so our club is characterized by fun, laughter and the happiness that only the grace of God provides.

I have a great desire for a well structured club, scripture memorization, and a clear gospel message, but my deepest passion is FUN. Being a follower of God is exciting and unpredictable thanks to the Holy Spirit’s leading, and I want to help parents, leaders, and clubbers express the FUN of being a believer in Christ in their own lives.

– David Curtis, AWANA Commander

Game Time

Want to know what it’s like at AWANA game time? Imagine this:

Four kids take off at the blow of a whistle into a dead sprint around the Awana circle. After one lap they pass the baton to one of their friends waiting with an outstretched arm. As the second kid grabs the baton and begins his own sprint, his teammates are cheering wildly on the sidelines. He hears them, but everything is a blur of energy and adrenaline. He finishes his own laps and turns to the final objective to bring his team to victory: his team’s pin standing up in the Circles interior; knock that down and they will be victorious. As he runs towards his goal, he notices a kid from an opposing team approaching their own pin. A photo finish, both kids extend their arms and reach for victory.

This is just a taste of what it’s like every week at Awana game time. This is the part of Awana most kids think of when they hear the word “fun.” There is a wide variety of Awana games played, and we do different ones each week to mix things up.

Handbook Time

Knowing scripture and being able to recall it is a valuable asset for a disciple of Christ. It’s to this end that we task the children to memorize scripture verses from their Awana handbook each week. This is the portion of Awana most kids would consider “work.”

When the kids say the verses in a section of their book, the Awana leader assigned to your kids group signs off that section and gives the student an “Awana Buck.” (Awana Bucks are rewards given to kids for completing goals. They can be spent to buy prizes at the Awana Store.) If the student finishes two sections during Handbook Time, they are further rewarded by being allowed to go to the “bonus room.” The bonus room in a place where the kids can do fun activities and games for the remainder of handbook time.

Council Time

As much as we love Game Time and Handbook Time, they are not as important to the mission and purpose of Awana as Council Time. During council time the children will be exposed to the Gospel, the good news of Jesus. Jesus is the reason we get together, we have fun and study. It’s during this portion of the evening that your kid will have the best opportunity to hear and respond to the saving message of Christ.

Nursery

MBC’s nursery is designed for children from birth to 2 years. We strive to provide a nurturing, safe, and stimulating environment for each child as he or she begins a journey in faith. It is our hope that parents will be fulfilled with the ministry and care that their child is experiencing through the nursery at Midland Bible Church. Our nursery is divided into two areas:

Infants and Crawlers

Babies not yet crawling or walking, crawlers and those just beginning to walk.

This area offers toys, swings, exersaucers, board books, beginner puzzles, and a separate quiet room with cribs and rocking chairs. This area is available for children up to 18 months old.

Toddler Time

Children 18 months old to two years.

This area offers table and chairs, toys, and learning centers. Children that are two by September are welcome to move up to Sunday school class for 2′s.

Sunday School

Sunday School is a great time for kids and teachers alike. While there is plenty of fun to be had, Sunday School’s main purpose is to get serious and learn something from the Bible.

In Sunday School kids get together by age group and engage in a Biblically based lesson. After the lesson, kids make a craft project based on the lesson taught.

Children’s Church

What’s Children’s Church like?

Imagine some of the things adults do in church: Getting together with lots of people, singing songs and listening to a lesson from the Bible. Now shrink that down to an age range of four years old through second grade and you’ve got children’s church!

Children’s Church happens during the 11:20 service, after kids and adult Sunday School.
