Our Beliefs
The following summary is not an official statement of the doctrinal positions held by Midland Bible Church. This summary is given as a short reference of the Biblical truths we both affirm and teach. For a Full Doctrinal Statement, contact the church office for a printed copy. We do not require any regular members to hold to these truths, but rather to be teachable about them.
The Bible
We believe that the Holy Bible is God’s inerrant and infallible revelation in the original autographs.
Godhead
We believe that God eternally exists In three persons – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; and that these three are one God.
Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ was fully God and fully man. Further, we believe that Jesus Christ was crucified, died and was raised from the dead.
Fall of Man
We believe that man, though originally created in the image of God, fell through sin and became spiritually dead to God; and that this condition is the heritage of every member of the human race.
Salvation
We believe that salvation comes only through Christ.
We believe that this salvation is a free gift which is received by grace through faith alone, apart from works of any kind. Furthermore, we believe that submission to the Lordship of Christ is not an issue of salvation, but instead is for the already saved as he grows in Christ.
We believe that salvation places an individual in a position of perfect spiritual blessing and completeness in Christ, though the experience of this is only realized as one grows in Christ.
We believe that at death those who have trusted in Christ for salvation pass immediately into His presence. Unbelievers, after death, are kept in a state of conscious condemnation and misery until their final judgment. This final judgment is the everlasting conscious torment in the lake of fire apart from the presence of the Lord.
Eternal Security
We believe that every child of God is eternally secure in Christ in that once he is saved, he shall be kept saved forever by the Living God. This in no way means that God overlooks the sin of His children, but chastens and corrects them in infinite love.
Assurance of Salvation
We believe that it is the privilege of all believers to be assured of their salvation from the very day they take Him to be their Savior. This assurance is based wholly upon the testimony of God’s Word.
Holy Spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit and His permanent indwelling of every believer. Moreover, we believe He is the source of all spiritual power and all acceptable worship and service.
We further believe that the supreme manifestation of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer is the fruit of the Spirit.
We believe that, by the same Spirit, all believers in this age are baptized into, and thus become, one body that is Christ’s. As members of one another, we are under solemn duty to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace, loving one another with a pure heart fervently.
Spiritual Gifts
We believe in the divine giftedness of each Christian for service bestowed by the Spirit, and that wholly apart from the benefits of salvation rewards are promised according to the faithfulness of each believer in his service for his Lord.
We believe that some gifts of the Holy Spirit, such as speaking in tongues in known languages and miraculous healing were signs to unbelievers used in the initial establishment of the Church. The use of these gifts or a special enabling in the ongoing establishment of the Church is subject to God’s prerogative.
Believer’s Purpose
We believe that all Christians are divinely related to this world as strangers and pilgrims, ambassadors and witnesses, and that their primary purpose should be to make Christ known to the world with the aim of bringing others to Him and to grow in Him.
Biblical Interpretation
We believe in the necessity of interpreting the Bible according to its literal or normal sense.
Dispensations
We believe in the dispensations as different economies or stewardships by which God administers His purposes on earth. Three of these dispensations, or rules of life, are the subject of extended revelation in the Scriptures: the dispensation of the Mosaic Law, the present dispensation of Grace, and the future dispensation of the Millennial kingdom.
Ordinances and Government
We believe that water baptism and the Lord’s Supper are the only two ordinances of the church.
We believe that God’s ideal church government is found in the mutually submissive operation of a plurality of qualified men (Elders) in an autonomous local church. Furthermore, we believe there is no biblical basis for “clergy” or “laymen,” but that all are to be ministers in Christ.
Satan
We believe in the personality of Satan (and his demons) who, though judged at the Cross, remains as the “god of this world” until the second coming of Christ.
End Times
We believe that the next great event in the fulfillment of prophecy will be the coming of the Lord to rapture His church.
We believe that the rapture of the Church will be followed by the fulfillment of Israel’s seventieth week known also as the Tribulation.
We believe the Tribulation will be climaxed by the return of the Lord Jesus Christ to earth to establish His Millennial kingdom.
